A community is more than just the bulk of people involved. It’s the beliefs, actions, and motivations of the individual members that give a community its direction. One thing may bring people together to form a community, but it’s the people that have gathered that determine where it will go.

In a strong multifaceted community there will be multiple ancillary forces that give the community strength and balance. Being strong and balanced allows a community to roll with the punches and grow despite changes and issues on a single front.

Buttons?

Buttons meaning the things that hold something together. The idea made me laugh and I went with it 🤣

WordCamps

In the WordPress community, one of the biggest things that we do is attend WordCamps. These industry events focus on everything to do with WordPress and usually have multiple tracks or themes to ensure that you’ll be interested in something that’s going on at any given time.

WordCamps happen around the world in many different locations, when we’re not in the middle of a global pandemic. Usually locacations that hold WordCamps hold their event once per year.

Using the schedule found on the WordCamp Central website, you should be able to track down an upcoming WordCamp happening near you. When you’ve determined that events that you’d like to attend, you should subscribe to any of the associated mailing lists so you’ll be kept in the loop.

Volunteering for a WordCamp is a great way to meet people within the community as well as helping the community grow stronger.

Community Forums

WP After Party has its own forum that you can use to discuss WP, completely free. Go to https://wpabout.me/community/ and introduce yourself today! No really, you should pop in there.

WordPress MeetUps

Meetups can be like mini WordCamps and are usually put on by people within a community. Depending on where you are in the world, there may even be several meetups near you. Usually monthly, meetups are often less formal an a few hours rather than a few days.

If you’re interested in finding a meetup near you, go to https://www.meetup.com/, create an account and see what pops up. If you can’t find anything going on in your neck of the woods, you can even start your own meetup!

Community Podcasts

Oh my word, I love podcasts. I love to walk each day, and find listening to a podcast during my walks makes them more pleasant. Most of the podcasts in the WordPress are free, and excellent quality

There’s a list of recently published podcasts on this website here: https://wpabout.me/podcast/

To get you started, you can view list list on WP After Party to see what podcasts will be a fit for you. You can listen or watch (depending on the type of podcast) to an episode right from the link on the podcast post. Each time a new episode is published, it will show up on our list here automatically. The podcast listings on this website are a great way to get a feel for podcasts without any effort.

If you’re going to commit to listening to specific podcasts, I recommend that you find a pocast client for your mobile device and subscribe within your client. By subscribing, you’ll be able to see when new episodes are released, as well as having access to past episodes.

Community Blogs

You can find a blog that covers pretty much any topic that you’re interested in reading about. Many of the people creating these blogs have been in our industry for many years and have so much information to share. Learning from others to jumpstart your career is a superpower than can be harnessed by anyone.

The WP After Party website posts snippets of posts from news based websites within the WordPress sphere. This allows you to get an easy overview of what’s going on and choose to view the full story on the website that originally posted the story/article.

YouTube

There are so many WordPress related videos on YouTube. Some are great, but you’ll need to be wary of some of the content you’ll fine. Pay close attention to the date that the video was published as some information will be old and out of date.

When you see a video you like, click over to the channel of who created the video and scubscribe to their channel. After a while you’ll be able to fine tune a list of subscriptions to ensure that you’ll always have something to watch.

WP After Party Hopes to be on of Your Buttons

This website was created to help you promote who you are and what you do. You can create a free account, personal profile, agency profile. Next you can list websites that you’ve created to show off what you do and inspire others.
